The Light Art Decennial is ready to present itself once again. It was started in Linz, Austria by Martina Schettina and Manfred Kielnhofer. It placed its first creative mark on that city in 2010 once darkness fell.

This year Peet Thomsen has been asked to co-curate the festival.

As the co-curator resides in Denmark, and artworks will be presented there as well, the theme of the festival will be “Pink”

Why pink one may ask? Peet was inspired by the colors of the Austrian and Danish flag which are both red and white.

A progression from this will be to mix the colors of the flags. Red + White = Pink. This is the practical explanation. There is a more thematic and philosophical reason as well, which follows below.

We are living in a time where the planet is faced with Global Warming. Since the inception of the virus on the 17th of November in Wuhan, China, the tiny Coronavirus has done more to stop global warming than politicians have done during many years of meetings. It is time to heed the message that is being sent by the little pink virus which results in COVID-19. We must listen to this warning and take care of our planet. It is important to secure the globe for future generations of children as well as other species.

In 2020 artists will use the medium of light to approach this theme. The works of art will be shown in the cities of Linz, Vienna and Salzburg. In 2021 the festival will move outside of the borders of Austria and the same works will be reinterpreted and presented in Copenhagen, Århus, and Odense in Denmark during the annual light art festival there. True to the theme of the festival none of the works will leave environmental traces. In keeping that same approach the power for the festival will come from renewable energy sources. The only lasting impression we want to leave are inspirational thoughts and memories. .

Dieses Jahr wurde Peet Thomsen gebeten, das Festival mit zu kuratieren.

Da der Co-Kurator in Dänemark lebt und dort auch Kunstwerke präsentiert werden, lautet das Thema des Festivals “Pink”

Warum rosa kann man fragen? Peet wurde von den Farben der österreichischen und dänischen Flagge inspiriert, die sowohl rot als auch weiß sind. Eine Folge davon wird sein, die Farben der Flaggen zu mischen. Rot + Weiß = Pink. Dies ist die praktische Erklärung. Es gibt auch einen thematischeren und philosophischeren Grund, der unten folgt.

Wir leben in einer Zeit, in der der Planet der globalen Erwärmung ausgesetzt ist. Seit der Entstehung des Virus am 17. November in Wuhan, China, hat das winzige Coronavirus mehr zur Eindämmung der globalen Erwärmung beigetragen als die Politiker während langjähriger Treffen. Es ist Zeit, die Nachricht zu beachten, die von dem kleinen rosa Virus gesendet wird, das zu COVID-19 führt. Wir müssen auf diese Warnung hören und uns um unseren Planeten kümmern. Es ist wichtig, den Globus für zukünftige Generationen von Kindern und andere Arten zu sichern.

Im Jahr 2020 werden Künstler das Medium Licht nutzen, um sich diesem Thema zu nähern. Die Kunstwerke werden in den Städten Linz, Wien und Salzburg gezeigt. Im Jahr 2021 wird das Festival außerhalb der Grenzen Österreichs verlegt und die gleichen Werke werden während des jährlichen Light Art Festivals in Kopenhagen, Århus und Odense in Dänemark neu interpretiert und präsentiert. Getreu dem Thema des Festivals wird keines der Werke Umweltspuren hinterlassen. In diesem Sinne wird der Strom für das Festival aus erneuerbaren Energiequellen stammen. Der einzige bleibende Eindruck, den wir hinterlassen möchten, sind inspirierende Gedanken und Erinnerungen. .
